After an overnight stay in Caceres, we arrived safely in Conil on Friday 13 December where we will be spending Christmas. We are staying at Camping La Rosaleda just outside this pretty Spanish resort. It is a pleasant walk into the town from the campsite. The campsite is not as busy as previous years and I think this can be attributed to uncertainty over the effects of Brexit, but more about that later.
We like this site as it has good facilities and we have fallen in love with the town and the friendliness of the locals. Following disappointment last year, when we had to cook in the caravan for Christmas Day, we have already booked Christmas Day lunch in a well known town centre restaurant called Restaurante Blanco y Verde a few weeks ago. They prepare exceptional Steaks there.
As close friends will know since we retired we have both become frequenters of late night bars (notably the Drawing Board in York) and Conil has its own version of the Drawing Board for our delectation called LaTertulia (the social).
Even after a years absence the bar manager sees us walk in and immediately pulls out a bottle of our favourite red wine and two glasses without us having to say a word and then it is hugs all round.
We understand that in Summer it is a completely different resort to what we know in Winter when we are usually the only Brits out-and-about. In summer it is noisy with riotous behaviour. The two Silver Foxes get treated very well whilst we are here. We must look quite different to the local Spanish Population. We like that!
The coast line is beautiful here and Conil itself is renowned for its amazing beaches of golden sand on the Costa de Lutz. Just half a mile further south is Trafalgar Point. The very famous sea battle was fought just off here. Not surprisingly there is nothing commemorating this on the land although it is mentioned in local guides
Finally the weather is sunny and getting warmer.
