Today we ventured along the Coventry Canal Basin. This is a real piece of canal history and the centre of Coventry and the cathedral are only a 10 minute walk from the basin. The buildings have been converted into offices, a cafe and some retail units. The moorings are very good and the whole area is well lit at night time and under CCTV surveillance.
It was with some trepidation we made the journey as it was the first time we had cruised into a city centre via canal. Our nervousness was ill-founded as the local Coventry Canal Society in partnership with the Canals and Rivers Trust keep the canal and towpath in good condition with surprisingly little litter and obstructions on both the towpath and in the canal itself. It is actually a designated greenway through the urban sprawl.
We will now journey into other large urban areas with a little more confidence in the future
