Up and finish packing then it’s off to Vicenze. We went by motorway Pat and Tim by ordinary roads. They set off 90 mins before us and arrived 5 mins after. The site was very green and lots of trees. We pitch up next to each other and head off to Vicenze by bike. It said via a cycle route but was quite dodgy at times. The weather kept dry and we enjoyed the visit. I did want to see the old theatre but may be another time. Palladio buildings were beautiful. Back out and Mike read the map wrong and we went back in. Calling at a massive EuroSpar for supplies. Spag Bol for all. Nice evening then the weather turns for the worse.

Rainy day. Mike decides he’s had enough of visiting old towns and has a “me” day. The Holmes’s and I head off to Padua by train, umberellas to hand. First the local bus, then train and a walk into the old town. We sat at a cafe in the herb piazza for coffee and a treat before our explorations began.
Probably a lovely town but my goodness how it rained and rained. Retracing our travels and back to the site ready for Tims Chilli con carne. Ours for drinks then ‘t Holmes for the meal.

Off to Venice today. We say our farewells and pack up for a relatively short trip to Venezia camping. We decided to change sites because of reviews at Malcontente mentioning mosquitos. We made a great choice. The pitches although some quite small were good, amazing shower block but the best was the access to Venice. 100 yards out of the site is a bus stop. 3 euros return and 5 minutes to Venice. Venice is wonderful. Today we do back streets, Rialto bridge and the San Marco square. Just to get our bearings. It stayed reasonably dry with just an odd shower. Back home for Lidl, salad and BBQ meat. Lovely

Today we visit San Polo region and visit the Santa Maria del Frari church/former monastery. Had a sound guide which was good. Lunch was Spritz and Mike had a cheese and ham toasty I had a dour grey soup which really was delicious. Back exhausted and fell asleep at 9.

In today, we take the Vaporetta along the grand canal. We were first in the Q so got prime seats at the front. Amazing. Getting off at Śan Marco we walk along the front past San Marco piazza past the bridge of sighs, it is impossible to describe how beautiful this place is. With it being Saturday it was incredibly busy. We sat and had a Spritz and shared a pizza at a canal front restaurant and then journeyed back through Cannaregio to the north of the Grand Canal. A much wider street with loads of atmosphere, bars, restaurants. Getting back and sorting BBQ before the rains and thunder started. It was Eurovision and Mike found an Italian program with it on, so we watched until 12.30. Shocking. We had a leak through one of the front windows. Which made a few things damp. Turns out to be a seal not in right.

Sunny start to the day so a little sunbathing is in order. Mary and Mo from next door come to talk and I get her number in case we want to check out anywhere near where they live for visiting. John decides to go to lidl for supplies, bugger they shut at 1 pm on a Sunday. We set off into Venice for the evening with umberellas in hand ready for thunder storms later. The bus inspectors got on the bus – 4 of them, then they pounced checking tickets had been validated and fining one or two people (that would have been a great job). We have a Spritz on the Grand Canal then after a little walking around have a lovely meal near the Rialto bridge. €105. An emergency ambulance boat sped past and a wave splashed into the restaurant to much amusement as the waiters (obviously used to it) grabbed bags etc off the floor before the wave hit. The m’aitre de reminded us of the tall blond knight in game of thrones and the waiter was divine. Just as we finish the meal the heavens opened so a damp walk back to the bus. Ever efficient Italian buses there was a no. 5 waiting for us to go back. Cup of tea and a dry out ready for bed (the window was dry, hurrah) and an early departure tomorrow. Heavy rain all night 🙁
