Today we are 40 years together! We get up early and are packed and ready to go at 9.30am. Once again we check out the sites for reviews and decide to change sites. We have a uneventful but pleasant journey to Trèbes which is on the canal de midi. It is a 13km cycle ride along the tow path to Carcassonne. After a quick set up we set off. The temperature is a lot higher than in Sitges touching 34c but, everything is beautiful, serene, amazing – just a few words to describe this idyllic ride. It took us 55 mins to get to the outskirts of this medieval city/castle. We cycle up to the top and have a look around. We found a lovely square which reminded us of empurias in the bay of Rosas. But this was so atmospheric and it had live music including a typical French accordion player. We had a traditional meal at le trouvère and then cycled back. Very tired but had a great day. Should sleep well although the it’s still hot.

After reading reviews about the site in Bergerac we decide to head straight to Arès doing over 5.5 hours travel. The temperature is rising rapidly and reaches 38 degrees by the time we arrive at the camp site la Cigalle (recommended by our friends Pat & Tim). It is so hot we have to wait till late before venturing out to explore. It’s a lovely site and we have a corner pitch with much appreciated shade. We go to the camp bar for a drink when we get back and relax with the pads with free wifi. Mike has a shower in the van because we are fully connected. Tomorrow it will be cooler.

Referendum day. We are awoken by children’s laughter then as always, tears. It was quite cool during the night and a few clouds this morning help keep the temperature at bay. Cycled along the designated path on the way to biganos (truly lol) from Ares (really lol) it was lovely and very flat. We called in at Andernos les Bain and had Aperol Spritz @ 18€ ****. And ice cream. A lovely town that felt very American. The bay water was out, in fact no where to be seen. Not unlike Morcombe. A call into Casino for provisions then back to site for lazy relaxing time.

The U.K. have voted to leave EU. 🙁
Once we get over the shock… we decide to cycle to the Atlantic coast. Amazing cycle path through pine forests and woodland to du Crohot plage. Wonderful unspoilt dunes and huge beach that goes forever in both directions. The French do things right. We can get wifi in the middle of no where lol. We have a sandwich and a drink on the beach then back 16 miles round trip. Lovely
Meal in then drink in site bar. Temperature has dropped and today was cool. Got bitten grrrrrr
